How caller ID works

If you subscribe to caller ID service provided by your local telephone
company, information about each caller is displayed between the first
and second ring.
The time and date of the call and the caller's name and telephone
number appear on the screen if they were sent by the caller's telephone
company.
The caller ID information might not be available for every
incoming call. The callers might intentionally block their names
and/or telephone numbers.

UNKNOWN NAME
UNKNOWN NUMBER
UNKNOWN CALLER
LONG DISTANCE
-OR-
L (before the caller's number)
When
The caller is blocking the name.
The caller is blocking the telephone number.
The caller is blocking the name and number.
This caller's name is unavailable.
This caller's number is unavailable.
No information is available about this caller.
It is a long distance call.
