• If no voltage is present:
A. Ensure the circut breaker is
ON.
B. Repair or replace the wires
between the circuit breaker and
L1 and L2.
C. Restest for 240VAC.
• If 240VAC is present, replace the
system control panel board.
TEST 3 - Measure Circuit Breaker Line-Side
Voltage
1. Ensure the circuit breaker is ON.
2. Start the generator and measure for
240VAC on the line-side of circuit breaker.
• If there is no voltage on the line-side of
the breaker, proceed to TEST 4 -
Bypass the Automatic Voltage
Regulator.
• If there is voltage on the line-side of the
breaker, but none on the load-side,
manually cycle the circuit breaker and
retest. If there is still no voltage on the
load-side, replace the circuit breaker.
NOTE: For complete alternator technical support
contact Marathon Electric Generators at:
100 E. Randolf Street, PO Box 8003,Wausau,
Wisconsin, 54401-8803, or at 715-675-3311, or
at www.marathonelectric.com.
TEST 4 - Bypass the Automatic Voltage
Regulator (AVR)
NOTE: The generator "No Load" voltage is
dependent on exciter input voltage and
generator speed. With the generator operating at
rated speed and 12 VDC applied to the exciter
field, the generator's terminal voltage will be near
rated value.
1. Set SYSTEM swith to OFF.
2. Remove the 15 Amp system control panel
fuse.
3. Gain access to the Automatic Voltage
Regulator (AVR). Position control panel
assembly and secure secure with tie
straps as needed. (Figure 25).
Figure 25
4. Disconnect the positive (F+) and negative
(F-) AVR leads and while observing
correct polarity, connect them to a 12V
battery.
5. Reinstall the 15 Amp control panel fuse.
6. Turn the SYSTEM switch to AUTO, then
push and hold the MANUAL OVER-RIDE
button to start the generator.
7. Measure the terminal voltage, and
compare with rated voltage (Figure 26).
Figure 26
• If the specified voltage is present,
replace the automatic voltage
regulator.
• If the specified voltage is not present,
proceed to TEST 5 - Test Alternator
Windings.
