LOW OIL PRESSURE
WARNING
Battery posts, terminals, and related
accessories contain lead and lead
components, chemicals known to the State
of California to cause cancer and
2
reproductive harm. Wash hands after
handling.
The standby generator is equipped with a Low
Oil Pressure (LOP) switch. The contacts of the
switch are normally closed, but are held open by
engine oil pressure during operation. Should the
engine oil pressure drop below a predetermined
level, the contact will close. This completes a
circuit to ground Wire #85 and the system
control panel shuts the engine down.
The digital display will show FC_2 and the
remote LED will repeatedly flash twice with a
pause.
During cranking and immediately after engine
start, the following occur:
• The system control panel bypasses the
LOP switch for several seconds during
the initial cranking.
• The LOP switch opens when engine
produces sufficient oil pressure.
• The system control panel senses that
the engine is running by monitoring
voltage on Wires #L1 and #L2.
• After the system control panel senses
that the engine is running, it looks for a
ground on Wire #85.
• If Wire #85 is grounded, the system
control panel shuts the engine down
and displays FC_2.
Refer to Figure 19 for troubleshooting flow.
Correcting Low Oil Pressure
1. Fix any obvious oil leaks and, if
necessary, add the recommended oil to
the FULL mark on the dipstick.

2. Reset the fault code detection system.
SEE RESETTING THE FAULT CODE DETECTION
SYSTEM ON PAGE 19 .
3. Start the generator and listen for any
abnormal sounds that might indicate
engine damage from low oil.
SEE TESTING MANUAL OPERATION (NO LOAD)
ON PAGE 52.
• If a low oil pressure condition still
exists, the engine will shut down after
approximately 10 seconds and the
control panel will again display FC_2.
Proceed to TEST 1 - Measure for
Short-To-Ground.
TEST 1 - Measure for Short-To-Ground
1. Set the SYSTEM switch to OFF.
2. Remove the 15 Amp fuse from the system
control panel.
3. Turn off Utility voltage to the standby
generator.
4. Remove the control panel cover to gain
access to the system control panel.
SEE HOW TO ACCESS THE SCP ON PAGE 17.
5. Remove the the 8-pin connector from the
system control panel (Fig. 20).

6. Measure for short-to-ground on Wire #85
(Figure 21).
