8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Plus Switch Model GS908E Use 802.1P/DSCP Quality of Service In the 802.1P/DSCP QoS mode, the switch uses the 802.1P or DSCP information in the header of an incoming packet to prioritize the packet. With this type of QoS, you cannot control the port prioritization on the switch because the device that sends the traffic (that is, the packets) to the switch prioritizes the traffic.

  • Page 49: Manage Switch Discovery Protocols

It is important to know the IP address of the switch so that you can access the local browser interface of the switch. The switch supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), Bonjour, and NETGEAR Switch Discovery Protocol (NSDP), which are protocols that can discover the switch. A device that functions in the same network as the switch and that supports one of these protocols can discover the switch and obtain the IP address.
