Paper End Detection

If there is some paper in the paper tray,
[A]
[B]
the paper stack raises the paper end
feeler [A] and the paper end sensor [B]
is deactivated.
When the paper tray runs out of paper,
the paper end feeler drops into the
cutout in the tray bottom plate and the
paper end sensor is activated.

Paper Near End Detection

[B]
The mechanism shown to the right tells
the CPU when a tray is nearly our of
paper.
Actuators [A] on the output coupler of
the tray lift motor actuate the paper
height sensor [B]. When there is
[A]
sufficient paper in the tray, the actuator
is oriented as shown in the middle
illustration. When the paper tray is in a
near end state, the actuator rotates with
the rotation of the tray lift arm and
reaches a position where it blocks the

paper height sensor. The sensor signals
the main control board that the paper
tray is in a near end state.
[B]
There are four actuators because there
are four possible ways for the motor's
the output coupler to mate with the tray
lift arm shaft. However they engage, one
of the actuators will be in the proper
[A]
position.
