3. Remove filter guard and oil filter from
transaxle.
4. Remove oil drain plug or fitting from inlet
port and allow transaxle to drain
completely.
5. Clean filter mounting surface and then
lubricate rubber gasket on new oil filter
with clean hydraulic oil.
6. Spin new oil filter onto filter housing until
it makes contact. Tighten oil filter
another 3/4 turn.
7. Install filter guards removed in step 3.
Tighten mounting screws to 0.61 N•m
(5.4 lb-in).
8. Loosen, but do not remove purge plug.
NOTICE: Loosening the purge plug when
adding hydraulic fluid helps air escape and
aids in the purging process.
9. Fill with 15W-50 synthetic motor oil
(Gravely p/n 00057100) or equivalent
until oil appears at the bottom of the
drain plug (about 2 quarts per transaxle).
Install the drain plug and tighten to 20.3
N•m (15 lb-ft).
10. Tighten purge plug.
11. Repeat steps 1 – 10 for the other
transaxle.
12. Follow the instructions in Add Hydraulic
Fluid on page 21.

Purging the Hydraulic System
WARNING: This adjustment
requires operating the engine.
Use extreme care to avoid
contact with moving parts and hot
surfaces. Ensure rear of unit is
well supported and secure before
starting engine.
1. Face unit against a wall and jack up unit
so both drive wheels are off the ground.
2. Disengage parking brake and put
transaxle bypass levers in neutral
position (see To Push The Unit on
page 17).
3. Start engine and slowly move the
steering levers (Item 4) forward and
reverse five or six times.
4. Stop engine and put transaxle bypass
levers in drive position.
5. Repeat step 3.
6. Stop engine, check the oil level and add
oil as needed.
7. Repeat steps 2 – 6 until transaxles
operate smoothly in forward and reverse
at normal speeds without excessive
noise.

1. Check the carbon canister filter for
debris accumulation every time the unit
is filled with fuel. Remove any buildup.
2. Clean or replace the carbon canister
filter whenever the engine air filter is
cleaned or replaced.
