Toner remainder amount detection

• The amount of toner still available for use, or toner remainder amount, is determined
using the toner remainder amount information stored in EEPROM or the count of the
empty detection counter calculated from the T/C ratio.
• A toner empty condition can be divided into 3 groups: normal, near-empty, empty
Toner empty condition
Normal
Near-empty
Empty
A. Toner near-empty detection control
Either one of the following detection conditions detects a toner near-empty condition.
• Toner remainder amount information
The amount of toner replenished, as calculated from various conditions, is subtracted
from the default value of the amount of toner packed. A near-empty condition is detected
when the toner remainder amount reaches a predetermined threshold value.
• Empty detection counter
At each timing of detecting the T/C ratio, the toner concentration detected by the TCR
sensor is compared with a target toner concentration to find any difference in the toner
concentration. A near-empty condition is detected when the sum of the counts deter-
mined according to the toner concentration difference reaches a predetermined thresh-
old value.
B. Toner empty control
Either one of the following detection conditions detects a toner empty condition.
• Toner remainder amount information
An empty condition is detected when the toner remainder amount information reaches
zero.
• Empty detection counter
An empty condition is detected when the sum of the counts after the detection of a near-
empty condition reaches a predetermined threshold value.
C. Near empty display
• The warning screen to be displayed when a toner near-empty is detected can be enabled
or disabled in the Unit Change in the service mode.
• When the warning screen display is set to "YES", the message notifying the user that the
toner cartridge needs replacing soon is displayed. Printing can be continued even after
the message appears (Default setting).
• When the warning screen display is set to NO, the message notifying the user that the
toner cartridge needs replacing soon is not displayed. Printing can be continued without
having the message displayed.
