5. MANAGING THE DVR

In order to record to your DVR, you must first format the Hard Drive. If the drive is not formatted, the free space

available on your system will show as 0M. To format your hard drive, refer to the following steps:

Step 1: Enter the User Configuration menu as outlined in Section 4.2.9. Referring to the illustration shown in Fig

4.2.10 Tools Configuration, click on the Disk Manager button and a pop up window will appear as illustrated below in

Fig 5.1 Disk Manager..

Step 2: If the disk has never been formatted, the status listed under the column labeled Status will show as New. To

begin formatting the disk, Click on the Disk in the Disk Manager dialog and click on the Format button.

Step 3: A security window will appear reminding the user that all data will be lost if they continue with the formatting

process. Click OK to continue and a progress bar will display as shown below.

The DVR currently only supports updates through USB. Get the firmware from the Q-See website and ensure that

you are running the latest firmware version. Refer to Fig 5.1 Disk Manager to check the USB information.

To update the firmware on your DVR, follow these steps:

Step 1: Plug a USB flash drive into the computer attached to this DVR. Copy the firmware file to the USB flash drive

by locating the .tar file (file will have a .tar extension).

Step 2: Plug the USB flash drive into the DVR in the appropriate port. Following the steps outlined in Section 4.2.9

and referring to the illustration shown in Fig 4.2.10 Tools Configuration, click on the Upgrade button.
