Before any planned system shutdown or after any system additions, removals, or
modifications (including firmware updates, logical drive creations, storage
partitioning definitions, hardware changes, and so on), save the storage subsystem
profile as explained in the DS4000 Storage Manager guide for your operating
system. Save the profile in a location other than the logical drives created for the
DS4800.
Always refer to the readme that is included with the DS4800 Storage Subsystem
firmware package (whether the firmware is accessed by the Web or CD) for any
special requirements or restrictions that apply to that particular firmware version.
Note: Make sure that you install the DS4000 Storage Manager event monitoring

Monitoring status through software

Use the DS4000 Storage Manager client to monitor the status of the storage
subsystem. Run the software constantly, and check it frequently.
Note: DS4800 model 80A/H does not support 06.15.xx.xx and 06.14.xx.xx
controller firmware versions. You cannot downgrade DS4800 model 80A/H
to 06.15.xx.xx and 06.14.xx.xx controller firmware versions.

Version 6.16 Support for DS4000 EXP810 Fibre-Channel Storage Expansion
Enclosure CD, included in the EXP810 shipping group. This CD contains
controller firmware required to upgrade the DS4800 models 82A/H, 84A/H, and
88A/H to a version that supports EXP810 attachment. Even when a newer
06.16.xx.xx version of controller firmware is available on the IBM DS4000 support
web site, you must first upgrade the firmware in DS4800 models 82A/H, 84A/H,
and 88A/H using the controller firmware file on this CD before applying the latest
06.16.xx.xx controller firmware version available on the IBM DS4000 support web
site. The 06.16.xx.xx code on the IBM support web site will not load into DS4800
controllers that do not already have a 06.16.xx.xx version of the controller
firmware installed.
Depending on the DS4800 model you order, your DS4800 will ship with either the
Microsoft Windows host software attachment kit or with your choice of host
software kits (Windows, AIX, Linux, Netware, SUN Solaris, HP-UX, Linux on
POWER, or VMware). The host software kit grants you permission to attach host
servers using the appropriate operating system to the DS4800. The kit includes a
DS4000 Storage Manager Version 9.16 Support CD that has the appropriate IBM
DS4000 Storage Manager host software. The CD also contains includes
controller firmware version 06.15.
For the latest controller firmware, check the IBM support web site for DS4000
storage products.
