Water circulation (c.h.)

Detailed recommendations are given in BS
6798 and BS 5449; the following notes are
given for general guidance.
For Ireland (IE), refer to I.S.813.2002.
Pipework
Copper tubing to BSEN 1057 is recom-
mended for water pipes. Jointing should be
either with capillary soldered or with com-
pression fi ttings.
Where possible pipes should have a gradi-
ent to ensure air is carried naturally to air
release points and water fl ows naturally to
drain taps.
The appliance has a built-in automatic air
release valve, it should be ensured as far as
possible that the appliance heat exchanger
is not a natural collecting point for air.
Except where providing useful heat, pipes
should be insulated to prevent heat loss and
to avoid freezing.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A
F
Particular attention should be paid to pipes
passing through ventilated spaces in roofs
and under fl oors.
Central heating system
The appliances are designed for open vented
central heating water systems, but may be fi t-
ted to a sealed central heating system pro-
vided the necessary components, such as
expansion vessel and pressure safety relief
valve are fi tted to the system. Refer to Fig.
5.9 for a typical open vented system design,
which incorporates radiators, and a drain fa-
cility that must be provided at the lowest point
in the system to allow complete drain down.
The installation should be designed to oper-
ate with a fl ow temperature of up to 95°C.
If a sealed system is to be used then only a
competent person must fi ll it.
The hydraulic resistance curves for the ap-
pliances are given in Fig. 5.4 .
If thermostatic radiator valves are fi tted, one
radiator must be fi tted with two lock shield
valves, to enable correct operation of the
pump-overrun facility.
The following paragraphs outline the specifi -
cations of the items fi tted to the appliances.
