Installing the dryer vent

General

Important
The dryer should only be operated
when the moist air produced by
drying is ducted to the outside, by
means of: . .
. . . a flexible venting house, or
piping connected to the dryer, or
. . . a direct connection to a
through-wall pipe.
– The appliance should not be
electrically connected while the
venting is being installed.
– The ducting outlet (for instance, a
wall pipe) is to be located so that the
moist air . .
. . . cannot be drawn back into the
dryer installation space;
. . . will cause no structural damage
or unacceptable nuisance.
– Air required for drying is drawn from
the installation space.
Consequently, ensure that there is
sufficient room ventilation when
drying to prevent possible
asphyxiation from the possibility of
expelled gasses being drawn back
into the room, as well as to prevent
much longer drying times; for
example:
- Open windows;
- fitting unblockable air
inlets in the external wall;
- install window switches, so
that the dryer can only be
turned on when the window is
open.

Avoid:
– very long ducting systems.
– too many sharp bends or corners.
Otherwise you will have less efficient
drying and increased time and energy
consumption.
Use:
– for ventilation ducting:
rigid or flexible metal ducting with a
100 mm diameter.
– for venting to the outside:
a wall pipe or window vent kit.
Procedure
^ First measure the duct length
required. From this, calculate the
total duct length and determine the
required diameter (see the next
pages).
Note that a greater overall duct
length requires a larger pipe
diameter.
^ Then, decide which type of ducting
you wish to use (see "Installing
Venting Systems" in this section).
