    Connecting the VS-88FO This section describes how to connect the VS-88FO. The VS-88FO can switch one of the eight fiber optic inputs to any or all of the eight fiber optic outputs, as the example in Figure 3 shows. Always switch off the power to each device before connecting it to your VS-88FO.

     A master unit must be Machine #1. When connecting more than one VS-88FO, set a different Machine # for each unit. The units do not have to be numbered sequentially but each unit must have a unique machine number.

    5.5.1 Connecting the Ethernet Port Directly to a PC You can connect the Ethernet port of the VS-88FO directly to the Ethernet port on your PC using a crossover cable with RJ-45 connectors. This type of connection is recommended for identifying the VS-88FO with the factory configured default IP address.

    Controlling Using the Ethernet Port You can control the VS-88FO over the RS-232/RS-485 port or the Ethernet using the Kramer K-Router application. If you are controlling a standalone unit using RS-232 or the Ethernet, configure the unit as master (MACH #1), see Section 5.2.1.
