Carefully apply a light coat of thin C/A to the edges of both the hatch cover
and the hatch. This will secure the edges of the covering material into place
so that it doesn't peel up in the future.
Glue the reinforcement plate with a notch cut into it to the front of the hatch
cover, making sure that the front edge of the reinforcement plate is 1/8" (3mm)
behind the front edge of the hatch cover and that the reinforcement plate is
centred between the sides of the hatch cover.
Glue one reinforcement plate to the back of the hatch cover, making sure
that the back edge of the reinforcement plate is 1/8" (3mm) in front of the back
edge of the hatch cover and that the reinforcement plate is centred between
the sides of the hatch cover.
Glue the remaining reinforcement plate onto the top of the rear reinforcement
plate, making sure that it overlaps the back edge of the rear reinforcement plate
halfway.
IMPORTANT These two reinforcement plates will create a tab that will hold
the back of the hatch cover in place.
Cut a 1/8" (3mm) wide by 3/4" (18mm) long slot in the centre of the hatch
cover for the hatch latch. Position the front of the slot 9/16" (14mm) behind the
front edge of the hatch cover.
Glue the hatch latch to the hatch cover, making sure not to get any glue in
the latch mechanism.
