    HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS, allowing you to connect to the Internet through mobile broadband connection from around the world. Optionally, you can insert a micro SD card up to 32GB in size to use the WAH1004 as a portal storage device at the same time.
  • Page 7: Hardware Connections

    The LED of your WAH1004 indicates whether it is currently connected to a 2G or 3G network (green). The LED turns red and blinks if there is no SIM card inserted or the WAH1004 is not connected to a mobile network. The LED is off if the WAH1004 is not attached properly or the driver is not installed.

    ZyXEL 3G Modem Utility 2.1 Overview After you attach the WAH1004 to your computer and install the driver successfully, the WAH1004 automatically connects to an available mobile network using the default profile settings. You can install and use the ZyXEL 3G Modem utility to change the PIN code, check the connection status, configure the connection profile(s), send text messages, and manage the contact list.

    Click Help > About to view the version number of the ZyXEL 3G Modem utility you installed. The following sections introduce the WAH1004’s navigation panel menus and their screens.     Click Disconnect to drop a connection to a mobile data network. Connection Time This field displays how long the mobile data connection has been up.     This field displays the number of packets transmitted from the WAH1004 through the mobile data connection since it was last connected. Total This field displays the total number of packets received and sent by the WAH1004 through the mobile data connection since it was last connected. Downlink rate This field displays the current reception speed, in kilobytes per second.

    Use this screen to manage your SMS text messages. To access this screen, click the Contacts icon or click Operation > Contacts from the menu bar. You can select to add and store the contacts in the computer or in the SIM card. Figure 8 Operation > Contacts WAH1004 User’s Guide...

    Click Tools > Connection Profile from the menu bar to open the Connection configuration screen, where you can create a new connection with a different APN, user name or password, or modify or remove an existing profile. WAH1004 User’s Guide...
  • Page 20 Type the password (of up to 64 printable ASCII characters) associated with the user name above. Authentication The WAH1004 supports PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) and CHAP (Challenge Type Handshake Authentication Protocol). CHAP is more secure than PAP; however, PAP is readily available on more platforms.

    5.2 Power, Hardware Connections, and LED The WAH1004 does not turn on. The LED is not on. Make sure the WAH1004 is correctly installed (refer to your Quick Start Guide). Remove and plug in the WAH1004 to restart it. Restart the computer to which the WAH1004 is attached.
