is returned to the host.

Error Code
The ACB-5500 handles disk defects on a sector level.
Instead of
assigning alternate tracks, at the cost of performance and capac-
ity, the ACB-5500 deletes only the sector which contains a disk
defect.
All subsequent logical sectors are then shifted down by
one physical position.
