5. Position the new microprocessor fan as shown, and align the four screw holes in the microprocessor
fan with the corresponding mounting studs on the system board. Then, install the four screws to
secure the microprocessor fan to the chassis.

6. Connect the cable of the new microprocessor fan to the microprocessor fan connector on the system
board. See "Locating parts on the system board" on page 34.

Replacing the heat sink

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
CAUTION:
The heat sink might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer and
wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
To replace the heat sink, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 123.
