16. Slide the system board to the front of the computer and then carefully pivot the failing system board
upward to remove it out of the chassis.

17. Position the new system board into the chassis so that the screw holes in the new system board are
aligned with those in the chassis. Install the ten screws that secure the system board to the chassis in
descending numeric order (from screw
the system board to the chassis" on page 118.
18. Remove the microprocessor socket cover from the new system board.
19. Install the memory modules, PCI cards, battery, microprocessors, heat sink and fan assemblies, and
the hard disk drive enablement module (if your computer has one) that you removed from the failing
system board to the new system board.
20. Reinstall the rear fan assembly. See Figure 25 "Installing the rear fan assembly" on page 97.
21. Connect all cables to the system board. See "Locating parts on the system board" on page 76.
22. Go to "Completing the parts replacement" on page 127.
The failing system board must be returned with microprocessor socket covers to protect the pins during
shipping and handling. Install the microprocessor socket covers removed from the new system board
on the failing system board.
Note: The microprocessor socket cover installation procedure should be performed on both microprocessor
sockets on the failing system board.
