3.4. Rules for Registering Users The LaCie SAFE drive can save up to 10 fingerprints. Since each registered user (including the Administrator) must register at least two fingerprints, the drive can accommodate a maximum of one Administrator and up to four users.

The PS2 power supply adapter cable connects to either of the ports used to connect a keyboard or mouse to your computer. The USB ports (either USB 2.0 or USB 1.1) on your computer can help provide power to your LaCie SAFE drive in case a single USB port does not supply the necessary power to operate your drive.

6.4. Disconnecting and Locking Your Drive To lock your LaCie SAFE drive once you are finished using it, first unmount it. Then disconnect the drive by disconnecting the cable. Your drive, and its data, are now inaccessible to unauthorized users.
7.1. File System Formats Your LaCie SAFE mobile hard drive comes formatted with the FAT 32 file system format. This is the only file system format that is accessible on both PC and Mac platforms. LaCie drives are pre-formatted as FAT 32 volumes and can be used across multiple platforms (for example, Windows 2000/XP, and Mac OS X).
MS-DOS File System This is the Microsoft file system, more typically known as FAT 32. This is the file system to use if you are going to be using your LaCie hard drive between Macs and Windows operating systems. UNIX File System This is the file system based on UNIX, and is preferable for users developing UNIX-based applications within Mac OS 10.x.

Important Info: Please refer to section 7.1. File System Formats, for a more detailed discussion on the differences between the two systems.
To use the newly-enhanced USB 2.0 performances, your computer must be equipped with a USB 2.0 host bus adapter card (sold separately, such as the LaCie USB 2.0 PCI Card, or integrated by your PC manufacturer) and the appropriate drivers.
1) Make sure that the USB 2.0 cable is connected tightly and securely on both ends of the cable, from the drive to the computer. If you are using a USB 2.0 cable other than the one supplied with your LaCie drive, check that it is USB 2.0 certified.
First, make sure that you are swiping your finger the right direction (the front of the drive should be facing you) and that you are touching the sensor for 10 seconds. Also, be sure to wait a few seconds after connecting the LaCie SAFE drive to the USB port on your computer.

Should I keep a backup of the data stored on the SAFE drive? It’s always a good idea to keep a backup, or even two backups, of your data. LaCie provides a full range of products for back- ing up data, including tape drives and CD and DVD burners.

Simply ignore this message. The drive will remount to the desktop. LaCie drives conserve power by spinning down when you set your computer to sleep mode, and when the computer is “woken” from sleep, it does not give the drive enough time to spin-up from its sleep mode.

For more than two devices, you must make new connections using a peripheral called a "hub."
