Troubleshooting Guide

If you experience any of the following difficulties while using this unit, use this troubleshooting guide to help
remedy the problem. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
Problem
There is no sound.
Sound is distorted.
Playback has stopped suddenly.
Cannot play back audio data with date
limits.
The wrong track number is displayed
beyond "255."
The "MG Memory Stick" cannot be
inserted.
The "Memory Stick" you are using only
works on other devices.
Error displays
If there is a problem with the unit, the "MG Memory Stick," or audio file, various messages will be displayed.
Messages will vary depending on the master unit you use.

The above indicators will flash for about 5 seconds, then an alarm sound will be heard.

After displaying the error messages as a track name, playback of the next song begins.
Cause/Solution
• Volume is set too low.
t Increase the volume of the master unit.
• ATT function is set to "on."
t Set the ATT function to "off."
The audio was recorded at a lower bps value.
t Record at a higher bps value. For more details, refer to the Operating
instruction of the recording software.
The contacts are dirty.
t Insert and remove the "MG Memory Stick" a few times.
Audio data with date limits cannot be played back on this unit.
The track number display goes up to "225." After this, any additional
tracks will not be registered. i.e., the display stays at "255."
The "MG Memory Stick" is inserted the wrong way round.
t Insert in the correct direction, as illustrated in step 1 of "Operation."
• It is not an "MG Memory Stick."
t This unit can only be used with the "MG Memory Stick."
• The "MG Memory Stick" has been formatted by a personal computer.
t After copying the necessary data to your personal computer, etc.
retry formatting the "MG Memory Stick" with the "MG Memory
Stick" exclusive device.
Cause/Solution
• You have inserted the "MG Memory Stick" that is formatted such that it
cannot be played back on this unit.
• The "MG Memory Stick" cannot be accessed.
• The "MG Memory Stick" error or master unit a malfunction has been
detected.
• The inserted "Memory Stick" is not an "MG Memory Stick."
• The inserted "MG Memory Stick" contains no audio data.
A malfunction is detected.
t Push the reset button on the master unit.
The player cannot playback certain contents of this "Memory Stick" due to a
difference in format.
• Cannot read the data.
• The data is corrupted.
You are attempting to play an audio file that is restricted, or one that is
incompatible with this unit.
An unauthorized distribution file is detected for copyright protection.
