Recording Formats

Since available functions differ depending on the disc type, select a disc
that best fi ts your preferences.
When you insert an unused disc, the following message appears.
DVD-RAM : Use after formatting the disc.
DVD±RW/+R : Use after initialising the disc.

DVD-R : Formatting a disc is unnecessary and only V mode Recording is
DVD-RAM/-RW(VR mode)
• This mode involves multiple editing functions (such as deletion of the
whole title, partial deletion of a title, etc.).
• Various editing options using a created Playlist.
DVD-RW(V mode)/-R
• Chapters will be created automatically when you fi nalise recording on
No
DVD-RW/-R discs in V mode.
• Simple editing (erasing titles/changing title name).
DVD+RW
• You can also make your own chapters on DVD+RWs and edit them
using the Chapter Edit menu. (see pages 66 to 68)

Recording Mode

Select one of four recording modes by pressing the REC SPEED button
repeatedly while the unit is in Stop mode for the desired recording time
and picture quality.
In general, picture quality improves as the recording time decreases.
In AUTO Mode, the most suitable record mode is adjusted automatically,
according to remaining time on the disc and length of the timer recording.
This function selects one mode from XP, SP, LP and EP mode and is used
in timer recording mode only.

• The dual layer DVD±Rs have approximately double the capacity of
single layer DVD±Rs. (See page 34.)
When using a DVD-RW disc, you can change the mode.
