4.9.2 Configure a Gatekeeper Unit

Using the Maintenance Console Software to configure network Gatekeepers is very similar to
the methods used to configure a Gateway but the number of configuration parameters is
considerably fewer.
The Maintenance Console Software display uses a set of tabbed folders to organise the
configuration process. Each of these folders contains fields in which configuration data are
entered.
The data to be entered should have already been identified and recorded on a Unit Setup
Worksheet for the unit being configured.
Much of the data recorded during the unit configuration process is critical to the proper
operation of the equipment and care must be taken to avoid errors.
As discussed earlier, when a unit is selected and the Edit Data command is used, the
Maintenance Console Software asks if a saved file is to be edited or if the file in the unit should
be downloaded.
If the saved file is to be edited, the Maintenance Console Software displays a dialogue box in
which the file to be edited can be selected. See section 4.7 Create New Units to review this
process.
Once the file to be edited has been selected, the Maintenance Console Software displays the
configuration folders for the Gatekeeper unit.
Each of these folders is discussed below.
• Only the Gatekeepers can be configured using the MCS. See the manufacturer's
documentation for other Gatekeepers.
• When an H.323 Gatekeeper address is configured within the IP Gateway network, it takes
precedence over all other network management facilities. The KX-TDA0480 internal DNS
settings will be ignored.
