7. You will have to change the order of hose sections before you install the automatic regulator
valve. Instead of terminating with a female/female section as shown in Figure 8, the last hose
section will be a male/female section and the second to last will be the female/female hose
section. Remove the hose protector from the female/female hose section.
8. Install the automatic regulator valve (encased in the strainer guard) between the last two
sections of hose with the suction port facing the pool floor. See Figure 10.
9. Place Kreepy Krauly into the pool and allow it to sink to the floor. Continue to feed the hose
vertically down into the pool until it is completely filled with water and purged of air.
10. Connect the male end of the last hose section to the end of the vacuum line adapter.
11. You may need to put either a hose weight or hose float (Part #K122022) onto the sides of the
automatic regulator valve to ensure that the valve remains submerged. (Both can be purchased
from your Kreepy Krauly dealer.) When connected, the automatic regulator valve should be
approximately 12 to 18 inches below the surface of the water, so that air does not enter the
system.
• If the automatic regulator valve is floating less than 12 inches above the water's surface,
place a hose weight on each side of the valve. See Figure 14.
• If the automatic regulator valve is sinking more than 18 inches below the water's surface,
place one hose float on either side of the valve. See Figure 14.
12. Check that the suction port on the automatic regulator valve is down, so it faces the pool floor.
This will keep the suction port submerged at all times.
IV. Adjustments
After completing the installation, turn the pool pump on. Allow the pump to run for a couple of
minutes to allow air to cycle out of the system. Kreepy Krauly should be moving about the pool at a
rate of 8 to 12 feet per minute. Check each of the following initial adjustments to Kreepy Krauly at
this time.
Hose Balance
To determine correct hose balance, turn the pump off
and observe Kreepy Krauly. Hose balance is correct when
Kreepy Krauly's seal rests flat on the pool floor and the
drive tubes make a 45° angle with the floor, as shown
in Figure 15. Kreepy Krauly achieves the best cleaning
coverage when the hose neither weighs down nor pulls
up on the unit. Adjust hose weights one inch at a time as
needed, until proper hose balance is achieved. In pools
with both shallow and deep areas, adjust hose weights
first in the deep area and then in the shallow area.
1. Hose too light. If the hose rises toward the surface at
an angle greater than 45°, move the weights closer to
Kreepy Krauly, or move the first two weights closer
to each other.
2. Hose too heavy. If the hose sags downward at an angle less than 45°, move the weights away
from Kreepy Krauly, or separate the first two weights away from each other.
