    Introduction The Vision 250E combines a manually-operated EFP-type pan and tilt head with electronic en- coders to provide precise real-time digital electronic positioning. Pan bar mounting points are located at the rear of the head, on either side of the camera mounting platform.

  • Page 9 Positioning encoders The Vision 250E is fitted with rotary optical incremental encoders for pan (18) and tilt (20), ac- cessed via a connector on the tilt encoder. Input power to the encoders is +5 V dc at 200mA maximum. The quadrature square wave outputs are designed for connection to TTL-compatible circuitry and provide high-resolution real-time digital output of up to 696,667 counts for 360°...

    Operation Installing the head The Vision 250E head is supplied with a flat base and is designed for installation on a compatible Vinten tripod or pedestal, using either the four mounting bolts and washers provided or by using a `Quickfix' adaptor.

    Pan and tilt drag Both the pan and tilt mechanisms incorporate the Vinten thin film (TF) system to ensure smooth movement of the camera about these axes and are fitted with control knobs to adjust the drag set- ting.
  • Page 13 on the right -hand side. The pan drag knob is telescopic and should be pulled out to facilitate ad- justment and pushed in when adjustment is complete. To increase drag, turn the knob clockwise, towards a higher graduation. To decrease drag, turn the knob anti-clockwise, towards a lower graduation.

    Use only detergent-based cleaners. DO NOT use solvent- or oil-based cleaners, abrasives or wire brushes to remove accumulations of dirt, as these damage the protective surfaces.     Battery replacement The battery powers the balance mechanism digital display and illuminates the level bubble and the drag knob scales. All are operated simultaneously by pressing the switch and remain active for approximately 15 seconds. The battery should be replaced yearly or whenever the illumination is considered inadequate. NOTE: The illumination level of the digital display and the level bubble and the drag knob scales varies with the intensity of the ambient light.

    The pan and tilt brake and drag controls may require adjustment after prolonged use. These ad- justments should be carried out by competent persons as detailed in the Maintenance Manual.
