10. Measure the pin bore-to-piston clearance.
(1) The piston pin bores and the piston pins must
be free of varnish or scuffing when being
measured.
(2) Use a micrometer in order to measure the
piston pin.

(3) Use an inside micrometer in order to measure
the piston pin bore. Replace the piston and
piston pin if the clearance is in excess of
0.0254 mm (0.001 in).
(4) Match the piston and piston pin. Do not service
separately.

11. Measure the piston compression ring end gap.
IMPORTANT: Fit each compression ring to the
cylinder in which it will be used.
(1) Place the compression ring into the cylinder
bore.
(2) Push the compression ring into the cylinder
bore approximately 6.5 mm (0.25 in) above the
ring travel.
The ring must be square to the cylinder wall.
(3) Use a feeler gauge in order to measure the
end gap.
(4) Select another size ring set if the end gap
exceeds specifications.
