Operating the radio (LW/MW band)
Set the waveband switch (3) to the LW or MW
position. Set the On/Off switch (11) to the 'On'
position. Turn the volume control (7) clockwise
until a hissing sound is heard. Rotate the tuning
control (10) to select the desired station. The
tuning indicator (4) will light up when the station is
correctly tuned. Rotate the radio to the position
giving best reception. Adjust the volume control (7)
to the required sound level. To turn off the radio set
the On/Off switch (11) to the 'Off' position.
Note : the telescopic aerial (1) is inoperative on the
LW/MW bands
Operating the radio (SW bands)
Fully extend the telescopic aerial (1). Set the wave-
band switch (3) to the SW position. Select the
required SW band using the SW band switch (5).
Set the On/Off switch (11) to the 'On' position. Turn
the volume control (7) clockwise until a hissing
sound is heard. Rotate the tuning control (10) to
select the desired station. The tuning indicator (4)
will light up when the station is correctly tuned.
Adjust the angle of the telescopic aerial and the
position of the radio to give best reception. Adjust
the volume control (7) to the required sound level.
To turn off the radio set the On/Off switch (11) to the
'Off' position.
Headphones (not included)
A headphone socket (8) is provided for use with
either headphones or an earpiece. Inserting a plug
automatically mutes the internal loudspeaker.
Mains adaptor (not included)
The AC adaptor for use with the R862 should
provide 3 volts DC output at 200mA centre pin
negative. Plug the adaptor into a mains outlet. Plug
the lead from the adaptor into the DC socket (9).
The battery will be automatically disconnected.
The mains adaptor should be disconnected from
the mains supply when not in use.
