MAINTENANCE

The Importance of Maintenance

A well-maintained motorcycle is essential for safe,
economical and trouble-free riding. It will also help
reduce air pollution.
To help you properly care for your motorcycle, the
following pages include a Maintenance Schedule and a
Maintenance Record for regularly scheduled
maintenance.
These instructions are based on the assumption that
the motorcycle will be used exclusively for its
designed purpose. Sustained high speed operation or
operation in unusually wet or dusty conditions will
require more frequent service than specified in the
Maintenance Schedule. Consult your Honda dealer for
recommendations applicable to your individual needs
and use.
If your motorcycle overturns or becomes involved in a
crash, be sure your Honda dealer inspects all major
parts, even if you are able to make some repairs.

correct a problem before you ride can cause a crash
in which you can be seriously hurt or killed.
Always follow the inspection and maintenance
recommendations and schedules in this owner's

Maintenance Safety

This section includes instructions on some important
maintenance tasks. You can perform some of these
tasks with the tools provided if you have basic
mechanical skills.
Other tasks that are more difficult and require special
tools are best performed by professionals. Wheel
removal should normally be handled only by a Honda
technician or other qualified mechanic; instructions are
included in this manual only to assist in emergency
service.
Some of the most important safety precautions follow.
However, we cannot warn you of every conceivable
hazard that can arise in performing maintenance. Only
you can decide whether or not you should perform a
given task.
