ChIMnEy

The stove functions by a simple principle of physics i.e. that hot gas rises. This means that the
smoke and hot gas produced by the fire rise up through the chimney while fresh air for com-
bustion is sucked into the fire chamber from the room or from outside (with stoves fitted with
an outside air inlet). The upward draught from the chimney is therefore the "motor" of the stove.
This draught is affected by a number of factors such as the cross section (wideness) of the
chimney, its height and its insulation as well as the temperature outside the house.
Every stove has its own characteristics. Deflection (i.e. changes in direction) of the smoke gas
improve the efficiency of the stove but also creates resistance. The temperature and quantity of
smoke gas produced differs from one stove type to another. Every stove therefore makes its own
demands on the chimney. It may well happen that a good stove and a functioning chimney are
incompatible and have to be adapted to one another. Always ask your stove dealer or a heating
engineer if your chimney is suitable for your stove.
n Connection to chimney
The planned connection of a stove to a chimney must be approved according to national and
local building regulations and carried out by a qualified engineer. The connection must also be
officially tested before the stove is put into operation.
DROOFF stoves are all designed according to type 1 with a self closing door to the fire chamber.
They can be connected without difficulty to a suitable chimney which is already in use.
The components required for connecting the stove to the chimney are not supplied with the
stove. These components can be obtained from your dealer. For the correct diameter for the
connecting sleeve of a DROOFF stove please refer to the attached data sheet "Technical
Information". Smoke pipes complying with the standard EN 1856-2 are suitable for use with
the stove. Always ensure that the smoke pipe is installed at the correct safe distance from
combustible substances and materials.
Wood burning stoves are technically complex devices. They function efficiently and safely only
when installed and connected to a suitable chimney in accordance with all technical rules and
regulations.
you are therefore advised to have your stove installed and connected to the chimney
by a qualified engineer.
