TAKING AXILLARY TEMPERATURES- BLUE CAPPED PROBE
(PATIENTS UNDER 4 YEARS)
Axillary temperature in children ages' birth through three years can be taken
with the SureTemp in the Axillary Mode, with an oral probe.
1. Withdraw the oral probe from its storage channel and observe a quick
thermometer self-test on the display.
2. With OrL probe type
displayed, depress and
hold the Mode button
for two seconds. ALy
will now appear in the
display, indicating that
the thermometer is
ready to take an axil-
lary temperature mea-
surement. Unless the
thermometer is in the
axillary mode, inaccurate axillary temperature readings will result.
Note: The thermometer may be placed in the Axillary mode as the default
mode using the Biotech mode, see the Technical Service Manual for further
details. When the default mode is set to Axillary, you will not need to press
the mode button.
3. Attach a probe cover as described in step 2 of the OPERATION Section.
4. Lift the patient's arm so that the entire axilla is easily visualized.
5. Place the probe as high as possible in the
axilla. Do not allow the probe tip to come
into contact with the patient until it is
deliberately placed in the measurement
site. Any tissue contact before this time
will activate the probe position icon and
may cause inaccurate temperature
readings.
6. Be sure that the probe tip will be completely surrounded by axillary tissue.
Clothing or any other material touching the probe tip may cause inaccurate
readings.
