TROUBLESHOOTING - 14

Engine performance complaints usually fall under one of the basic headings listed in the Troubleshooting Guide. When
a problem cannot be easily diagnosed, consult a PCM Engines Servicing Dealer for assistance.
Malfunction
Engine will not crank with the
starter motor, or cranks slowly.
NOTICE: Battery voltage
must be AT or ABOVE 10
volts while the engine is cranking
or the engine management system
will not function.
Engine Cranks - will not
start or is hard starting.
NOTICE: Battery voltage
must be AT or ABOVE 10
volts while the engine is cranking
or the engine management system
will not function.

Possible Cause
Problem with the engine
management system.
Battery switch turned OFF (if
equipped)
Remote control not in Neutral
position.
Blown ignition/starter fuse.
Loose and/or dirty wiring
connections.
Dead Battery
Improper starting procedure.
No fuel - empty fuel tank
No fuel to the throttle body (TBI)
or the injectors (MPI)
Engine fl ooded
Ignition system malfunction
Contaminated fuel

Corrective Action
Contact PCM Engines
Dealer.
Turn the battery switch ON.
Position the remote control exactly
in Neutral.
Replace the fuse
Check the battery cables and
starter circuit wiring. Clean
and tighten all connections.
Repair or replace the damaged
wiring.
Recharge, test and replace as
necessary.
Refer to "STARTING
ENGINE" in the OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS section.
Check the fuel tank level - fi ll
tank(s). Open shut-off valve(s).
Plugged fuel fi lters.
Plugged or kinked fuel lines or
plugged fuel-tank vent.
Faulty fuel pump - check
electrical connections.
Faulty anti-siphon valve.
Open the throttle 100% and crank
the engine. When the engine starts,
immediately return the throttle to
1000 RPM.
Contact PCM Engines Dealer.
Check fuel for water or other
contamination. If contaminated,
drain and clean the fuel system.
