GE Intelligent Platforms – ASLP11 Hardware Reference Manual, Third Edition
A Baseboard management controller (BMC) is implemented on the ASLP11,
interfacing between host processor and the system management network. The
BMC maps its host interface (HIF) into the local CPUs I/O address space,
specified in the 'ASLP11 Board Specific Hardware Programmer's Manual'.
The functionality of the IPM controller and how to communicate with it
through the HIF is described in the 'Intelligent Platform Management Interface
for ASLP11 User's Manual'.
For information about the System Management in AMC systems, please refer
to the AMC System Management specification. More information about IPMI
can be found on the Intel website.

C bus is equivalent to the onboard SMBus (described in
'Additional devices/SMB'). The IPMI-controller works as a second Master on

C bus to read the SMBus devices.
Software Installation
The Technical Product Information CD-ROM supplied with the ASLP11
includes the most commonly used software drivers and utilities.
The Ethernet controller 82571 from Intel used with the ASLP11 is a high
performance dual Gigabit Ethernet PCI-Express controller. Both channels are
available on the ASLP11 rear connector according to the AMC specification.
For registration and identification of a workstation in a LAN, a unique ID
number is required. Each network card is assigned a unique ID number,
which resides in an Ethernet address ROM on the ASLP11. An Ethernet boot
option can be enabled in BIOS setup.
Software Installation
The drivers available for the Ethernet controller support a large number of
operating systems. The table shows operating systems supported by the
available software:
