The backup battery pack did not allow us to ignite the flame using our handheld device. We replaced the batteries and still no response. What else can we do to troubleshoot?

If the Mendota FV41-PF2 backup battery pack is not allowing ignition with a handheld device, the following troubleshooting steps can be taken:

1. Check that 4 AA batteries are properly installed in the battery pack, matching the correct polarity as indicated on the battery compartment cover.
2. Verify that batteries are inserted in the remote transmitter with the correct polarity.
3. Ensure that the manual gas supply shut-off valves upstream of the fireplace are open.
4. Make sure the Master On/Off switch on the fireplace is toggled to the ON position.
5. Confirm that 110VAC power is connected to the Electrical Junction Box and that electrical power is ON if available.
6. If the pilot light goes out, wait at least five minutes before attempting to relight it.

If ignition still fails, contact a qualified Mendota-approved service technician.
