1. Right click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the
Windows system tray. Select Safely Remove Hardware. The
Safely Remove Hardware dialog box appears.
2. Select the device to remove and click Stop.
3. The Stop a hardware device dialog box prompts you to
confirm the device to be stopped. Click OK.
4. A message appears telling you that it is safe to remove the
hardware.
5. Slide and hold the modular bay release switch toward the
back, then pull out the device.
6. After you remove the device, insert another device.
7. Close the Safely Remove Hardware dialog box. Your
notebook automatically detects that the modular bay device
has been swapped.

To avoid losing data, Compaq recommends that you use the
Tip
operating system to completely stop a modular bay drive from
running before you remove the drive from your notebook. Refer to
the appropriate Web site for information about using the
operating system to stop drives before unplugging them.
