Mass storage devices, such as removable drives and external CD-ROM drives, can be attached to the HMX user station and will function as if they are directly connected to the remote workstation. You can connect both a removable drive and an external drive to an HMX user station.
User station modes The HMX system can operate in Extender Mode, Desktop Mode, Matrix Mode or Share Mode. The HMX user station and transmitter can obtain their IP address data from a DHCP server in any of the three modes.
User Station Ethernet LAN Safety Precautions To avoid potential video and/or keyboard problems when using Avocent products: • If the building has 3-phase AC power, ensure that the workstation and monitor are on the same phase. For best results, they should be on the same circuit.

Installation Installing the HMX 1050 User Station Before installing your HMX 1050 user station, refer to the list below to ensure that you have all the items necessary for installation. NOTE: For installation of the HMX Manager, see the HMX Manager Installer/User Guide.

LED identification Front panel There are two blue LEDs on the front panel of an HMX user station. The PWR LED will light up when the user station is turned on. The ACTIVE LED will blink slowly until the user station establishes a connection with the transmitter.

Audio and video quality Share Mode does not affect sound or video quality to any connected user. Switch requirements Share Mode connected transmitters send out multicast IP packets to the Ethernet switch.
Each monitor attached to a user station has to be capable of displaying the same resolution and frequency that all the other monitors in the share group use. NOTE: For Share Mode to operate in Desktop Mode, HMX Manager software version equal to or higher than 3.x.x.x is required.
