Processor Heat Sink/Fan Assembly

CAUTION:

CAUTION:
To guard against likelihood of electric shock, laceration from moving
fan blades, or other unexpected injuries, always unplug your computer from the
electrical outlet before removing the cover.
NOTICE:
The procedure for removing and replacing the processor heat sink/fan
assembly is identical for the Vostro 420, Vostro 220, and Vostro 220s computers; the
illustration provided is for example only and may not represent your particular
computer precisely.

Removing the Processor Heat Sink/Fan Assembly

1 Follow the procedures in "Before Working on Your Computer" on page 35.
2 Remove the computer cover (see "Removing the Computer Cover" on
page 47).
3 Disconnect the heat sink/fan assembly cable from the system board.
4 Loosen the four captive screws that attach the heat sink/fan assembly to
the system board.
CAUTION:
The heat sink/fan assembly may become very hot during normal
operation. Be sure that it has had sufficient time to cool before you touch it.
NOTICE:
A strong thermal solution bond may exist between the processor and
heat sink. Do not use excessive force to separate the heat sink/fan assembly from
the processor to avoid damaging the processor.
5 Lift the heat sink/fan assembly upward gently, and remove it from the
computer. Lay the assembly with the fan facing downward, and with the
thermal grease facing upward.
