Processor

CAUTION:

NOTICE:
Do not perform the following steps unless you are familiar with hardware
removal and replacement. Performing these steps incorrectly could damage your
system board. For information about contacting Dell, see "Contacting Dell" on
page 137.

Removing the Processor

1 Follow the procedures in "Before Working on Your Computer" on page 35.
2 Remove the computer cover (see "Removing the Computer Cover" on
page 47).
CAUTION:
Despite having a plastic shield, the heat sink assembly may be very
hot during normal operation. Be sure that it has had sufficient time to cool before
you touch it.
3 Remove the processor heat sink/fan assembly from the computer (see
"Removing the Processor Heat Sink/Fan Assembly" on page 99).
NOTE:
original heat sink/fan assembly when you replace the processor.
4 Push the release lever down and then press it outward to release it from the
retention hook that secures it.
5 Raise the processor cover, if applicable.
Unless a new heat sink is required for the new processor, reuse the
