    What is Searching? The UBC785XLT can search each of its 22 bands to find active frequencies. This is different from scanning because you are searching for frequencies that have not been programmed into your Scanner’s channels. The scanner automatically chooses between two speeds while searching.

    Connecting the Clone Cable You can transfer the programmed data to and from another UBC785XLT scanner using a RS232C Cable (9 pin to 9 pin) (not supplied). Connect the cable between each scanner’s REMOTE jacks.

It is recommended that you read the next part "Understanding the Menu System" because it will assist you in accessing and understanding many of the features. Later in a section called "Additional Features", you will find explanations on how to disable the keypad acknowledgement tones, to mute the audio, to change the appearance of the display and other general features.

    Once overloaded, the scanner may keep stopping on that signal and miss other transmissions. UBC785XLT comes with an RF Attenuation feature. It attenuates (reduces) the strength of a incoming signal in all modes to prevent stronger signals from overloading the scanner.

In this mode the scanner will stop on any transmission on a programmed frequency. 2. TONE SQ - In Tone Squelch mode, if you have set a subaudible tone for a frequency, the scanner will only stop on that frequency if the transmission includes the prescribed tone.

    VFO. RF Attenuation Feature The UBC785XLT comes with an RF Attenuation feature. If you're near an unusually strong signal source, the signal may overload the scanner. The scanner may stop repeatedly on that signal and miss other transmissions.

    Setting a Search Range Note: First you must set the search ranges through the Menu screen prior to searching. The UBC785XLT can search up to 10 separate frequency ranges to help you discover new stations in your area. To set a Search Range, enter into the Menu mode.

    2. Press RSM or SRCH to resume searching. Data Skip A scanner will normally stop on any transmission it receives. This means the UBC785XLT will occasionally stop on data signals and unmodulated transmissions. You can automatically skip many of these types of transmissions during search. If the frequency that you have chosen does not have an offset frequency, the display will indicate ERROR and NO REVERSE.

    Repairs • Do not attempt any repair. The scanner contains no user serviceable parts. Contact the Uniden Customer Service Center or take it to a qualified repair technician. Birdies • All radios can receive birdies (undesired signals). If your scanner stops during Scan mode and no sound is heard, it may be receiving a birdie.
