Be sure to observe all these safety precautions. Please READ through this manual carefully. It will enable you to use the QS20H correctly. Always keep this manual nearby for speedy reference. Strict observance of these warning and caution indications are a MUST for preventing accidents which could result in bodily injury and substantial property damage.
  • Page 5 Failure to do so could cause fire or electrical shock. • If you drop the QS20H so as to damage its housing, immediately turn off the power, unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket, and contact your nearest dealer.
  • Page 6 Moisture or dust will get into the QS20H, resulting in malfunction, fire or electrical shock. • Do not place the QS20H anyplace where it may be subjected to oily smoke or steam, e.g., near a cooking range or humidifier. Doing so could result in a fire or electrical shock.
  • Page 7 CAUTION • If you will not be using the QS20H for a long time, be sure to unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket for safety. Failure to do so could result in a fire. • Never cover or wrap up the QS20H or AC adapter in a cloth or blanket.
  • Page 8 Exposure to power surges could result in a damaged QS20H or fire. • When taking care of the QS20H, unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket for safety. Failure to do so could result in an electrical shock.
  • Page 9 Proper Care of the QS20H To clean the housing, moisten a soft cloth with neutral detergent diluted with water and wring it out thoroughly. Wipe the QS20H with the cloth and then go over it again with a dry cloth.

Reading confirmation LED Illuminates when the QS20H has read the code successfully. Beeper outlet The beeper sounds when the QS20H has read the code successfully Interface connector Via this connector, the QS20H exchanges data with the host computer. DC power jack Connect the AC adapter to this jack.
  • Page 12 • The illumination LED will turn on when the ambient environment is dark or the target code cannot be read easily. • If the QS20H fails to read due to specular effects or other factors, change the scanning angle of the scanning window or the distance from codes, and try it again.
  • Page 13 • The QS20H cannot support touch scanning. If you bring the scanning window into contact with a target code, the QS20H cannot read it. • The QS20H can read 2D codes omnidirectionally. Note that the target code including the margin should lie within the scanning range.
  • Page 14 If you press the trigger switch, the QS20H will become ready to scan. Bringing the scanning window to a 2D code or bar code will cause QS20H to read the code and send it to the connected PC or external equipment automatically.
  • Page 15 Reading split QR codes (registered as "Structured Append" at AIM) A QR code can be split into a maximum of 16 blocks. The QS20H can read split QR codes. Two reading modes of split QR codes are available—Edit mode and Non-edit mode.
  • Page 16: Chapter 2. Connecting The Qs20H To The Pc

High frequencies may cause the QS20H to malfunction. • Do not set up the QS20H in places where it may be subjected to excessive dust or conductive dust (e.g., carbons or metallic powders). Electrical insulation failures may occur, resulting in a broken scanner.

Chapter 5. Communications The QS20H communicates with the connected PC or external equipment in accordance with the RS-232C. You may set various communications conditions by scanning QR-coded parameters printed in Chapter 4. Communications flow You may select either the non-acknowledge mode or the ACK/NAK mode.

If not specified as binary codes, all data will be treated as ASCII codes. Listed below are port settings you can select. If data contains double-byte Japanese Kanji or binary data when the character length is set to 7 bits, the QS20H will ignore the MSB.
