    I . I N T R O D U C T I O N SAFETY WELCOME to Quantum Rehab, a division of Pride Mobility Products Corporation (Pride). The power chair you have purchased combines state-of-the-art components with safety, comfort, and styling in mind. We are confident that these design features will provide you with the conveniences you expect during your daily activities.
  • Page 5 I I . S A F E T Y PRODUCT SAFETY SYMBOLS The symbols below are used on the power chair to identify warnings, mandatory actions, and prohibited actions. It is very important for you to read and understand them completely. Read and follow the information in the owner’s manual.

    I I . S A F E T Y Locked and in drive mode. Place unit on level ground and stand to one side when changing from drive mode to freewheel mode or freewheel mode to drive mode. Unlocked and in freewheel mode. Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline or decline.
  • Page 7 I I . S A F E T Y Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries to reduce the risk of leakage or explosive conditions. Keep tools and other metal objects away from battery terminals. Contact with tools can cause electric shock. Do not connect an extension cord to the AC/DC converter or the battery charger.

    I I . S A F E T Y GENERAL GUIDELINES MANDATORY! Do not operate your new power chair for the first time without completely reading and understanding this owner’s manual. Your power chair is a state-of-the-art life-enhancement device designed to increase mobility. Pride provides an extensive variety of products to best fit the individual needs of the power chair user.

    I I . S A F E T Y Weight Limitations Your power chair is rated for a maximum weight capacity. Please refer to the specifications table for this limit. MANDATORY! Stay within the specified weight capacity of your power chair. Exceeding the weight capacity voids your warranty.
  • Page 10 I I . S A F E T Y WARNING! If your power chair is equipped with a reclining seatback, do not attempt to negotiate inclines with the seat in a reclined position. Do not attempt to negotiate obstacles with the seat in a reclined position unless an attendant is present to help stabilize the chair.
  • Page 11 I I . S A F E T Y Public Streets and Roadways WARNING! You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be aware that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power chair. Obey all local pedestrian traffic rules.

Always use an elevator. WARNING! Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators. Doors Determine if the door opens toward or away from you.

S A F E T Y Positioning Belts Your Quantum Rehab Provider, therapist(s), and other healthcare professionals are responsible for determining your requirement for a positioning belt in order to operate your power chair safely. WARNING! If you require a positioning belt to safely operate your power chair, make sure it is fastened securely in order to reduce the possibility of a fall from the power chair.
  • Page 14 I I . S A F E T Y Transfers Transferring onto and off of your power chair requires a good sense of balance. Always have an attendant or healthcare professional present while learning to properly transfer yourself. To eliminate the possibility of injury, Pride recom- mends that you or a trained attendant perform the following tasks before attempting a transfer: Turn off the power to the controller.

Pride strongly recommends that you do not smoke cigarettes while seated in your power chair, although the power chair has passed the necessary testing requirements for cigarette smoking. You must adhere to the following safety guidelines if you decide to smoke cigarettes while seated in your power chair.
  • Page 16 I I I . Y O U R P O W E R C H A I R THE QUANTUM 6000 SERIES POWER CHAIR Your power chair has two main assemblies: the seat assembly and the power base assembly. See figure 5. Typically, the seat assembly includes the armrests, seatback, and seat base.

  • Page 18 I I I . Y O U R P O W E R C H A I R Main Circuit Breaker (located on the rear main frame): The main circuit breaker is a safety feature built into your power chair. When the batteries and the motors are heavily strained (e.g., from excessive loads), the main circuit breaker trips to prevent damage to the motors and the electronics.
  • Page 19 I I I . Y O U R P O W E R C H A I R Dual Manual Freewheel Levers For your convenience, your power chair is equipped with dual manual freewheel levers. The levers are located on each motor, and allow you to disengage the drive motors and maneuver the chair manually.
  • Page 20 I I I . Y O U R P O W E R C H A I R Hammer Motor Package Your power chair is equipped with two powerful Hammer motors. These are right angle motors capable of pro- ducing one horsepower of peak output each. Follow the suggestions below to help ensure peak motor perfor- mance.

It may also require disassembly to make some comfort adjustments. Figure 10 details those parts of the power chair that are designed to be disassembled and assembled by an end user or by a qualified caregiver before using the product or making comfort adjustments.

    I V . A S S E M B L Y Seat Installation SEAT LATCH SAFETY It may be necessary to install the seat either prior to initial operation or after transporting your power chair. Contour seats are attached to the power base with the Universal Mounting System (UMS).
  • Page 23 I V . A S S E M B L Y Power Elevating Seat Option Your power chair may be equipped with a power ele- vating seat option. While the seat itself may be any one of the styles offered for this model, the way the seat base attaches to the power base is different.

    Your Quantum Rehab Provider has evaluated your power chair and made any necessary adjustments to suit your specific requirements. Do not change your seating configuration without first contacting Pride Mobility Products or your Quantum Rehab Provider.

    V I I . C A R E A N D M A I N T E N A N C E All wheel bearings are prelubricated and sealed. They require no subsequent lubrication. The body shroud has been sprayed with a clear sealant coating. You can apply a light coat of car wax to help it retain its high-gloss appearance.
