Installing Motion Sensor

1) RF-only devices require at least one dual-band INSTEON product for communication. For the best INSTEON
network performance, be sure you have properly installed at least two dual-band INSTEON products.
2) Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and
cover from the battery compartment on the back of
Motion Sensor and attach the included 9 Volt battery
3) Wait 5 minutes for the circuit to stabilize
4) Confirm Motion Sensor is working properly by tapping
the Set button a couple times while watching the front of
the unit
A red LED behind the sensor lens should flash each time
the Set button is tapped
If the LED does not flash, Motion Sensor is detecting
motion. Make sure nothing is moving in front of the
unit and try tapping the Set button again.
NOTE: Do not replace the cover on Motion Sensor until you have Linked all of the desired Responders and set up
any desired setup modes.

Mounting Motion Sensor

1) Use the two included screws to secure the swivel mounting bracket at the desired location
2) Slide Motion Sensor onto the swivel mounting bracket (sliding the unit to the right) until you hear a click
3) Aim Motion Sensor towards the area in which you wish to detect motion (detection area)
4) Test by walking through the detection area
The Responder should turn on when motion is sensed and turn off one minute after the last motion is
detected

Important Note about INSTEON Networks; Split Single-Phase vs. 3-Phase Installation

For the best INSTEON network performance, be sure you have properly installed at least dual-band INSTEON
products. INSTEON has only been officially tested in a split single-phase residential environment, but has been
known to work in many 3-phase systems, where three dual-band INSTEON products are used (one on each
phase). However, due to the potential complexity of its troubleshooting, SMART Tech Support is unable to
support INSTEON in 3-phase environments.

HOW TO USE MOTION SENSOR

How Motion Sensor Works

When motion is detected:
The red Motion Sensor red LED should flash
An ON command should be sent to Linked Responders
Motion Sensor should begin its Automatic Off Countdown
Whenever motion is sensed during the countdown, the countdown will be reset to easily allow you to
create "occupied" versus "unoccupied" modes for your home
When the Automatic Off Countdown expires, Motion Sensor should send an OFF command to Linked Responders
