    Installation and Basic Configuration This chapter describes how to install and configure the wireless access point for wireless connectivity to your LAN. This basic configuration enables computers with 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n and 5 GHz 802.11a/n wireless adapters to connect to the Internet or access printers and files on your LAN.

For this reason, use the security features of your wireless equipment. The wireless access point provides highly effective security features that are covered in detail in this chapter.

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) data encryption provides strong data security with Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) encryption. The very strong authentication along with dynamic per-frame rekeying of WPA makes it virtually impossible to compromise.

    The software of the wireless access point is stored in flash memory and can be upgraded as NETGEAR releases new software. You can download upgrade files from the NETGEAR website. If the upgrade file is compressed (.zip file), you first need to extract the image (.rmt) file before sending it to the wireless access point.
