3-Formatting a Drive.

When a drive has been freshly initialized, a hard disk recorder writes each file's data as a
single chunk in one area of the drive. As the drive gets used the areas of free space for
writing new data become smaller and smaller and are scattered all over the drive. A drive
in this condition is considered to be "fragmented." As the drive becomes more and more
fragmented it becomes difficult to access data and can ultimately lead to errors.
Typical symptoms of a severely fragmented drive include sluggish transport controls,
"Drive Busy" messages and eventually the inability to read and write data to the hard
drive or to CD.
To prevent fragmentation backup your songs and initialize your hard drive every couple
of months or so depending on how much recording that you do. Once the drive has been
initialized recover your songs back onto the hard drive
