Saving a Pattern.
If you want to save the pattern that you have created then you will need to write it into
the pattern memory by moving the CURSOR to WRITE and pressing ENTER. CURSOR
to an empty user location and press ENTER. Once a pattern is written into the memory
you can select it in the RHTHYM ARRANGER as a User pattern.
Using sample loops with the Rhythm Arranger.
The Preset as well as the User internal drum patterns discussed in the previous section are
MIDI based patterns. Drum sounds that are triggered by midi note numbers. You can also
use sampled audio loops in the rhythm arranger. Sampled audio loops are loops that are
taken from existing audio recordings. Often just a small section of audio is used. Audio
loops can come from sample libraries on CD ROM, WAV or AIFF files that are burned
on to CD ROM from a computer or from tracks that you have recorded on the BR-1180.
The BR-1180 has its own internal memory to store audio loops. When a sample is
imported it can be assigned to a track or it can be imported to one of 8 banks of 50 for use
in the rhythm arranger. (There is also a 9
To import wave files from a CD to the internal banks of the BR-1180:
1) Insert a CD that contains WAV files. (such as DISCREET DRUMS)
2) Press LOOP PHASE IMPORT
3) CURSOR to IMPORT
4) Press ENTER
This will open up to the CD's directory. Use the CURSOR to select a folder then
press ENTER to open a folder. A sample CD may be organized so that there are
folders within folders. Once you open folders to the level that you are seeing .WAV
next to file names you will be able to preview and load samples.
To preview a loop, highlight a sample name using the CURSORS then press ENTER.
The loop will begin to play. If you want to load that sample into the BR-1180's
internal memory CURSOR to SEL then press ENTER. Or if you want to import the
entire contents of the folder onto the hard drive, CURSOR to ALL and press ENTER
The letter designation next to TO: is the bank destination for the sample. You have a
choice of banks from A through H for User locations or S to store the sample with the
current song only. For each of these banks you have a choice of 50 different number
locations. Once you have chosen a destination for the sample highlight GO than press
ENTER.
Once loops have been stored onto the hard drive they can be accessed in the rhythm
arranger exactly the same as the internal patterns. The difference is that you will be
selecting them from LOOP instead of RHY in RHYTHM ARRANGE EDIT.
