FLUEING

FLUE LENGTHS

Maximum Flue Length

The system will not operate if there is excessive restriction (pressure drop) in the flueing system.
The secondary flue between the water heater and the flue terminal must:
not exceed a maximum length of 9.0 m.
have no more than three (3) bends.
be installed with a gradient of 20 mm per metre of horizontal run.
Note: Ensure the seam of the inner flue in horizontal runs is at the top of the installation.

Minimum Flue Length

The minimum horizontal flue distance which may be used is 300 mm, provided:
the Water Heater Flue Adapter is connected to the flue outlet of the water heater.
one 90° Bend is connected to the Water Heater Flue Adapter, and
the Horizontal Flue Terminal is connected to the 90° Bend.
COMMON COMPONENTS

Water Heater Flue Adapter

The water heater and flue system must be installed with the Rheem supplied coaxial Water Heater Flue
Adapter.
Fit the end of the Water Heater Flue Adapter down over the water heater flue outlet as far as it will go.
Tighten the ring clamp provided using a screwdriver to ensure the Water Heater Flue Adapter is
securely attached to the water heater flue outlet.
Draining the Condensate
Provision should be made to drain the condensate from the flue.
A horizontal run of flue connecting directly to a Horizontal Flue Terminal must have a gradient downward
to the flue terminal. Condensate will drain from the flue terminal.
A horizontal run of flue between two bends, where the bend closest to the flue terminal is orientated
upward, must have a gradient upward to the flue terminal. Condensate will drain back toward the water
heater.
Where the flue is installed with an upward gradient, a Condensate Drain Section must be installed as
close as practical to the water heater in order to prevent condensate from draining back into the water
heater.
Failure to provide a Condensate Drain Section close to the
water heater could allow acidic flue gas condensate to enter
into the water heater flue-way, causing premature failure of the
water heater and voiding the warranty.
The Condensate Drain Section can be installed in either a
vertical or horizontal orientation.
If it is installed in the horizontal orientation, the drain spigot
must point downwards.
A drain line must be connected to the spigot on the Condensate Drain Section.
The drain line must incorporate a Condensate Trap (PN 295130), which must be filled with water prior to
the operation of the water heater. Refer to
"Condensate Drain Line and Condensate Trap"
