Setting up Internet telephony (VoIP)

The Gigaset SX553 WLAN dsl allows you to make telephone calls via the Internet using
an analogue telephone and, if required, via the fixed network as usual. To do this, you
require access authorisation from your service provider and the relevant access data. To
make calls you must enter this data along with other configuration settings in Advanced
Settings in the VoIP (Voice over IP) menu.
The menu comprises the following entries:
u
VoIP settings: Enter the basic data from your service provider here (see page 92).
u
ISDN: Enter the multiple subscriber numbers for your ISDN telephone connection
here (see page 94).
u
Extensions: Set up the functions for two extensions here (see page 95).
u
Dialling rules: Specify numbers here that are to be dialled only via the fixed network
or only via the Internet. You can block numbers completely (e.g. 0190 numbers) or
enter a call-by-call provider for the fixed network (see page 97).
Note:
If you do not specify any of your own dialling rules, then the default settings will
be used as entered in the Dialing Plans screen in the VoIP menu. All other calls
are made via the Internet. If you press the * key twice before dialling the phone
number, the call will always be made over the fixed network. The dialling rules will
not apply in this case.
Switching over takes a little time. For automatic dialling insert a pause after press-
ing the * key twice by pressing the recall key. You should therefore press the fol-
lowing keys: * key, * key, recall key and then the keys for the phone number.
Please also remember this when saving phone numbers in the telephone if a
number is always to be called via the fixed network. Otherwise this number might
not be dialled correctly.
u
Quick dial: Specify quick dial numbers or terms here for phone numbers you use fre-
quently (see page 100).
Important information:
u
If VoIP is not set up you will always make calls via the fixed network. The dialling
rules will not apply in this case (see page 97).
u
All calls from the fixed network are forwarded to the phone connected to the
Phone 1 port.
u
If VoIP is set up, then – depending on your provider – a call-by-call number is preset
for fixed network calls.
u
Check these dialling rules (see page 97) and change them if you have agreed special
phone tariffs with another provider.
u
Do not change the default setting for the Internet connection mode (= "permanent
connection") if you are using VoIP (see page 37). You can only be called via VoIP if
this setting is used. Remember, though, that this setting can result in high connec-
tion costs if you have agreed a time-based tariff with your Internet provider.
