Notes on MP3

I What is MP3?
MP3 (abbreviation for MPEG Audio Layer 3) is an audio compression technology format. By such processing
as shaving off sound registers that cannot be heard by human ears and sounds that cannot be heard because
they are buried by large sounds, audio can be compressed while still maintaining the sound quality. Since files
can be compressed to approximately 1/10
10 music CDs can be written onto a single disc. (When the files are converted to MP3 files at [bit rate of
128 kbps and a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz] and written to a 650 MB CD-R/RW disc.)
I What formats can be played back?
CD-R/RW discs that are compliant with ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet and Romeo (extension formats), or
ISO9660 Apple extension formats can be played.
≥ UDF, Apple HFS and Rock Ridge formats are not supported.
≥ What is the ISO9660 format?
This is a logical format for files and folders. (international standard)
The ISO9660 format has the following restrictions on the number of characters that can be used.

≥ What is the extension format?
Joliet and Romeo are logical formats for files and folders used on Windows, whereas the ISO9660 Apple
extension is used on Macintosh computers. These formats have the following restrictions on the number of
characters that can be used. For details, please see the user's manual for the writing software.
