LAW OF SINES AND LAW OF COSINES

Use the SOLVER with the Law of Sines.
1. A 50 foot tree has been damaged
in a storm and is inclined at an
angle of ° (from the vertical)
directly away from the sun. Find
if the tree casts a shadow 40 feet
long on level ground when the
angle of elevation of the sun is 60°.
Use the SOLVER with the Law of Cosines.
2. A bridge is to be built between
points B and C across a lake. A
surveyor using a transit determines
the measure of the angle at point A
to be 82°. The distance between
points A and B and between points
A and C is known to be 125 yards.
Find the distance across the lake
that the bridge will span.
3. Two adjacent sides of a parallelogram
are of length 8 and 12. The length of
the shorter diagonal of the parallelogram
is 10.5. Find the angle opposite the
shorter diagonal.
