APPLICATIONS WITH RIGHT TRIANGLES
Use the solver with sine, cosine, and tangent functions.
1. Let ABC be a right triangle with AB=32, BC=12.5, and right angle at C.
Find the degree measure of the acute angle at A and side AC.
2. A wheelchair ramp will be built so that it rises to a height of 3 feet above
level ground. If the end of the base of the ramp is 12 feet from the building,
how long is the ramp? What is the degree measure of the angle at the end of
the ramp and level ground?
3. A guy wire for a television antenna makes an angle of 60° with the mast.
If the wire is attached to the antenna 50 feet from the base of the antenna,
use the secant function to determine the length of the wire.
4. John is lying on the beach 500 feet from his hotel and looking at Paula who is
standing on a balcony. If the balcony is 450 feet above ground level, use the
cotangent function to determine the angle between the beach and John's line
of sight.
