Reassembly
c. Remove the nuts and repeat the procedure as
required.

4. Check that the dowel pins are in place and install
a new cylinder head gasket (part number facing
up).
5. Install the cylinder head. Match the numbers on
the cylinder heads and the crankcase. See Figure
10-28. Make sure the head is fl at on the gasket
and dowel pins.
6. Lightly lubricate the exposed (upper) threads of
the studs with engine oil. Install a fl at washer and
hex nut onto each of the mounting studs. Torque
the hex nuts in two stages; fi rst to 16.9 N·m
(150 in. lb.), fi nally to 33.9 N·m (300 in. lb.).

Figure 10-36.

Heads secured with hex fl ange screws:
2. Install a new cylinder head gasket, (part number
facing up). See Figure 10-34.

NOTE: Match the numbers embossed on the
cylinder heads and crankcase. See Figure
10-28.
3. Install the cylinder head and start the four hex
fl ange screws.
4. Torque the hex fl ange screws in two stages;
fi rst to 22.6 N·m (200 in. lb.), fi nally to 41.8 N·m
(370 in. lb.). See Figure 10-35. Follow the torque
sequence in Figure 10-36.
