4. Install the inner rod cap to the connecting rod
using the two hex fl ange screws. Torque in
increments to 11.6 N·m (103 in. lb.). See Figure
10-6. Illustrated instructions are provided in the
service rod package.
NOTE: Align the chamfer of the connecting
rod with the chamfer of its mating end
cap. When installed, the fl at faces of the
connecting rods should face each other.
The faces with the raised rib should be
toward the outside.

5. Repeat the above procedure for the other
connecting rod and piston assembly.
Install Governor Cross Shaft
1. Lubricate the governor cross shaft bearing
surfaces in the crankcase with engine oil.
2. Slide the small lower washer onto the governor
cross shaft and install the cross shaft from the
inside of the crankcase.
3. Install the nylon washer onto the governor cross
shaft , then start the push-on retaining ring. Hold
the cross shaft up in position, place a 0.50 mm
(0.020 in.) feeler gauge on top of the nylon
washer, and push the retaining ring down the
shaft to secure. Remove the feeler gauge, which
will have established the proper end play. See
Figures 10-7 and 10-8.

Install Camshaft
1. Liberally apply camshaft lubricant (see Section 2)
to each of the cam lobes. Lubricate the camshaft
bearing surfaces of the crankcase and the
camshaft with engine oil. See Figure 10-9.

2. Position the timing mark of the crankshaft gear at
the 12 o'clock position.
