02 Instruments and controls

Lighting panel

The lamps are switched off automatically when
the remote control key is turned to position I or
02
0.
Instrument lighting
The instrument lighting is switched on when
the remote control key is in position II and the
headlamp control (2) is in one of the end posi-
tions. The lighting is automatically dimmed
during the day and can be controlled manually
at night.
Roll the control up or down (3) for brighter
or dimmer lighting.
Enhanced display lighting
To facilitate reading the odometer, trip meter,
clock and outside temperature gauge, these
illuminate when the car is unlocked and when
the remote control key is removed from the
ignition switch. The displays extinguish when
the car is locked.

Fog lamps
NOTE
Regulations for use of fog lamps vary from
country to country.
Front fog lamps*
The front fog lamps can be switched on along
with the headlamps or the position lamps/park-
ing lamps.
Press the button (4).
The light in the button (4) illuminates when the
front fog lamps are switched on.
Rear fog lamp
The rear fog lamp can only be switched on with
the headlamps or the front fog lamps.
Press the button (6).
The rear fog lamp indicator symbol on the com-
bined instrument panel and the light in the but-
ton (6) illuminate when the rear fog lamp is
switched on.
Fuel filler flap
Press button (5) to open the fuel filler flap when
the car is unlocked, see page 124.
Brake light
The brake light automatically comes on during
braking.
Emergency brake light and automatic
hazard warning flashers*
Emergency brake lights (Adaptive Brake
Lights) are activated in the event of sudden
braking or if the ABS brakes are activated. This
function means that the brake light flashes to
immediately alert cars travelling behind.
The system is activated if ABS is used for more
than 0.5 seconds or in the event of heavy brak-
ing, however, only when braking from speeds
above 50 km/h. When the speed of the car is
lower than 30 km/h the brake lights shine nor-
mally again and the hazard warning flashers
are switched on automatically. The hazard
warning flashers remain on until the car accel-
erates again but can be deactivated with the
button for hazard warning flashers, see
page 64.
